You must complete a beginners course to join affiliated clubs such as ourselves — this is a requirement of our governing body, Archery GB. Our courses are designed to provide you with a foundation for your archery journey, helping you get the most out of this wonderful and challenging sport!

WHAT TO EXPECT

Over the four weeks you’ll get a general overview of target archery, including safety, etiquette, and bow types.

We’ll teach you the basic techniques of Olympic recurve shooting, as well as provide demonstrations of Olympic recurve and compound bows, and the Longbow.

You will also learn how to score.

  • Setting up and taking down a recurve bow

  • Understanding different types of bows and their components

  • Learning about archers' equipment essentials

  • Adopting an appropriate shooting stance

  • Nocking an arrow onto the string correctly

  • Maintaining correct body posture while shooting

  • Executing a basic draw and release technique

  • Safely and correctly removing arrows from the target

  • Understanding safety rules for shooting

  • Adjusting a bow sight to compensate for shooting distance and drift

  • Understanding club-specific rules

  • Expert Coaching: Our club boasts AGB licensed coaches. Our Level 1 "Session" coaches are DBS checked and have received safeguarding training.

  • Tailored Equipment: We offer a variety of bows in different sizes and draw weights to ensure you get equipment that suits you perfectly.

  • Personalized Coaching: Each session is tailored to the individual archer in front of us, ensuring a personalized learning experience.

What We Expect from You:

  • Punctuality: Please arrive on time for each session.

  • Weather-Appropriate Attire: Since sessions take place outdoors, please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

  • Course Commitment: Attendance at all sessions is mandatory to complete the course. Please ensure you can commit to all course dates before signing up.

  • Adherence to Safety Rules: Follow the Archery GB Rules of Shooting, Club Rules, and Safety instructions.

Course Completion Requirements:

To successfully complete the course, candidates should demonstrate an understanding of safety rules, basic etiquette, and the ability to shoot reasonably well at 20 yards.

For Participants Under 18:

  • Junior Supervision: Juniors aged 10 and over are welcome at our club but must be supervised by a parent at all times.

  • Age Limitations: Due to available equipment, we can accept a maximum of two under 14s per course.

  • Parental Involvement: Parents of children aged 15 and under are required to undertake an Intro course as well. This ensures you are equipped to support your child throughout their archery journey.

Rest assured, there will always be coaching and support available. Once your child becomes a member, your involvement will be crucial in setting up their equipment, ensuring safety, and fostering their enjoyment of the sport.
