FAQs
Do you accept children?
Poole Bay Archers welcomes junior members from the age of 10 upwards. Please note that under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Am I too old for archery?
No! We have members ranging from 10 to over 80! Just give it a go!
I’m not very strong, will I be able to pull a bow?
There is a bow to suit everyone, so yes, you will be able to.
When do you shoot?
We shoot on Saturdays and Sundays all year round, as well as on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from May to September.
Do I have to have my own kit straight away?
No. All the equipment you need will be provided during your introductory course, and is available to hire after you join the Club so you can build your kit gradually.
What sort of bow should I buy?
During your introductory course, we will demonstrate recurve, compound, and longbows. You'll have plenty of time to decide which type suits you best. Please note that crossbows are not permitted.
Do I have to be “sporty” to do archery?
Archery is a wonderful hobby as well as a sport. Whether you choose to compete or not is entirely up to you.
How often do I have to come and shoot?
You can come and shoot as often as you like. The more you practice, the more your archery skills will improve!
Archery is dangerous, isn’t it?
No. Archery is one of the safest sports in the UK, with strict rules designed to keep everyone safe.
How much does it cost?
Archery is a relatively inexpensive sport compared to others. Club fees are around £150 for adults and £60 for juniors. Additionally, there's a wide range of equipment available to suit all budgets.
Should I be worried about being the only child/adult/female/retired person on the course?
Please don’t be. We have members of all ages and genders, including female coaches.
I have a disability or injury that might affect my shooting.
We are a disabled-friendly club. Please get in touch to arrange an assessment with one of our coaches. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
I already have a bow, can I just come and shoot?
You need to be a current member of Archery GB to shoot at Poole Bay Archers. However, visitors are welcome! Visitor fees are £5 for the day.
